Not so blue ... not so mean

If you are offended, disgusted, annoyed, or otherwise disturbed by the content of this diary, it's not my fault, and this disclaimer will tell you why. If I know you personally and haven't invited you here -- well, there's a reason for that, so kindly go on back to whichever part of my life you belong in. Trust me, this is for your own good.

I wanna be sedated

Friday, Apr. 27, 2007, 11:13 a.m.

I would be sleeping instead of writing, but it's kind of raining outside, and the accompanying wind is making my tent do the kind of noises you always imagined Calvin was doing in the comics while he stomped around like a velociraptor. Since there is no CD called Pure Moods XVIII: Prehistoric Reptilian Lullabies on the market at the moment, I hope we will all be in agreement that nature can go fuck itself.

I had hoped I'd be tired enough to pass out early today regardless of the weather, because I went to the gym after work today.

I am not kidding. Shut up. I DID. I WENT to the motherfucking GYM. Of my OWN VOLITION. And WORKED OUT. (WHO AM I?!?)

I've actually been trying to get into the habit of getting there every other day or so. Before we left Fort Stewpid, I was inching my way toward becoming super-fit (Super-fit! I'm Super-fit-tay!) and during our first month in-country -- that's Army slang for "hating life" -- I started lazying my way back down to what some might call "lumpy." It was not a good feeling, the lumpiness, especially considering that I only brought a two-piece bathing suit with me for this deployment, so I decided to do something about it other than writing about doing something about it.

Oh, hey, check it out: the pain and exhuastion are starting to overpower the noise of the wind and rain! Hot damn.

Before I nod off (hopefully), here are a couple of pictures I've been meaning to post here for a while, but keep forgetting to do so because my short-term memory has been replaced in my brain by an extra few cells whose main job is to yearn for chocolate.

The Easter Bunny at the DFAC
This was the Easter Bunny in our dining facility. I was actually a little afraid of him (I had watched Donnie Darko not too long ago), but then he handed me a chocolate rabbit and I was (obviously) cheered.

My new security badge
Here is my new security badge. Theoretically, it should get me into anywhere. Right now it is only good for making people think I am insane -- which, now that I think about it, is really not a bad idea.

Most motivating book ever
The brilliant Claudia sent me this book in a care package. I especially loved the part about "Should I Date A Serviceman?" and "If A Girl Must Telephone A Boy." Oh, 1956, you're so silly.

Again - THANK YOU so very, very much for your colossal generosity. I noticed while reading the comments for my last entry that a few of you aren't sure exactly what I meant by "be creative" about what I could ever possibly want and/or need here. I'm sorry for not providing more detailed guidance about what to send me, but I find it's just easier for all of us to let you all decide what, if anything, you want to send. That way there is no pressure, and I'm never disappointed.

If you do have any questions about, for instane, whether or not something is legally sendable, just e-mail me and I'll let you know.

Side note: I honestly don't care if it's legal, as long as if it isn't, you don't get caught sending it. End side note.

By the way, even if you don't want to send anything, let me know if you want a postcard or something from here, because I just went and purchased a metric assload of 'em.

And now back to my regularly scheduled programming.
